As with unity candles, there are nearly as many unity candle sets as there are individuals looking to hold a unity candle ceremony. Traditional unity candle sets typically come with two taper candles, one pillar candle and the candle stand(s) for everything you need to hold the ceremony. And unless you're looking for a very specific set up, it is recommended to purchase a set to simplify the wedding planning and save money. And while it is recommended to purchase your unity candle paraphernalia in a set, there are a number of different sets that can provide the perfect ceremony, depending on what you're looking for.
Traditional Unity Candle Set
By far, the most popular version of the unity candle ceremony is a standard set-up consisting of two taper candles and one pillar candle. Typically, sets will come in one of two major varieties for this style of ceremony. The first of the two styles is one singular candle holder with space to hold a center pillar candle, and a taper candle on each side. The other major variation of the traditional unity candle set features individual holders for the pillar candle and each taper candle, respectively. Candles included in these sets typically come in white or ivory, though nearly any variety of candle colors can be used.
Oil Unity Candle Set
Oil unity candle sets are a nice spin on the traditional ceremony. Much like the traditional unity candle sets, oil candle sets include two taper candles and a singular pillar candle. And just as with the traditional ceremony, the bride and groom use their respective taper candles to simultaneously light the pillar candle. The main advantage to oil candles over traditional unity candle sets is that the oil sets can be re-fueled, and used again in the eventual wedding of younger siblings, or even your own children. Typically, an oil unity candle set is comprised of two taper jars, and one pillar jar. The jars are most commonly made of glass, and oil may or may not be included.
Sand Unity Candle Set
Though not technically a candle, the sand unity candle ceremony is quickly catching on for its ease of planning, and keepsake potential. In a sand unity candle ceremony two taper jars are filled with differing sand beforehand, and during the ceremony the bride and groom simultaneously pour their respective jars of sand into the pillar jar. Just as with oil candle sets, the jars are typically made of glass, though plastic is also an option as there is no fire involved. Also, just as with the oil candle sets, the sand unity candle sets can be easily re-used in weddings of other family members, though the pillar jar of mixed sand can be a touching memento of your big day.
